Spanish painter and art critic, born at Gerona. In 1948 he was a founder member of the association Dau al Set in Barcelona and he was responsible for the designing and printing of its magazine of the same name. He also worked as an art critic for the Barcelona newspaper Revista. Tharrats took up painting in about 1950 with imaginary landscapes that had affinities with Metaphysical Painting. In about 1956, however, he turned to expressive abstraction and developed a richly colourful manner of Art Informel, describing his paintings as maculaturas (‘smudges’).
