Bp. of Ancyra (modern Ankara). At first a supporter of Nestorius, he became one of his most determined adversaries, taking a prominent part on the Cyrilline side at the Council of Ephesus (431). His surviving works include sermons for Christmas and the Purification, which are early witnesses to the existence of these feasts.
