Quick Reference

A form of anemometer in which wind speed is determined from the heat loss from a wire heated by an electrical current. The measurement may be direct, by monitoring the variation in resistance of the wire itself, as in hot-wire and hot-film anemometers. In heat-transport and heat-pulse anemometers, measurement is indirect, using separate sensors to determine the temperature of the stream of warm air carried downwind.
