The eleventh month of the French Republican calendar (1793–1805), originally running from 19 July to 17 August. Also, a reaction of moderates following a revolution, such as that which occurred in Paris on 9 Thermidor (27 July 1794) and resulted in the fall of Robespierre. The name is French, and comes from Greek thermē ‘heat’ + dōron ‘gift’.
