French architect. A pupil of Boullée, he became a partner of J. -N. -L. Durand, winning several prizes for Government-sponsored projects in the 1790s. He renovated several important buildings, including the Elysée and Neuilly Palaces, and worked for a time in The Netherlands, where he adapted the Town Hall, Amsterdam, as a Royal Residence. He published Application de la Perspective linéaire aux arts du dessin (Application of Linear Perspective to the Arts of Design—1827, 1831, 1833–4).
