thoracic injury

Quick Reference

Damage to the structures in the thorax. Injuries to the thorax are often serious since they can affect the vital organs of the lungs and heart. A fall from a horse, a crush in a rugby scrum, or any other direct hit on the thorax can result in fractured ribs with the potential risk of a punctured lung. Stress fractures of the rib occasionally occur, especially in those, such as tennis players, who use mainly one arm.
