Collaboration, inaugurated by It. manager Mario Dradi, between tenors José Carreras, Plácido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti. Début Baths of Caracalla, Rome, 7 July 1990 (eve of World Cup football final), with orch. cond. by Zubin Mehta, to raise money for Carreras's foundation for leukaemia research. Great commercial success. Further concerts, produced by Tibor Rudas, usually in large outdoor venues, in Los Angeles 1994 (Mehta), Paris 1998 (Mehta), and Yokohama 2002 (James Levine), as well as in other cities. Huge sales of CDs and DVDs.
