Name given to Arthur Orton (1834–98), English butcher, who in 1866 returned to England from Australia claiming to be Sir Roger Tichborne (lost at sea in 1854) and thus heir to the valuable Tichborne estate in Hampshire. When the case finally came to court, Orton lost his claim and was tried and imprisoned for perjury.
