Name borne by a large number of early Irish ecclesiastics and saints, of whom the best-known are the Tigernach patron of Clones, Co. Monaghan, and Tigernach Ua Braoin (d. 1088) of Clonmacnoise, who began compiling the Annals of Tigernach. The second name is sometimes anglicized as Tierney O'Breen.
