Quick Reference

Ballet in one act with choreography by Tharp, music by Haydn, costumes by Chester Weinberg, and lighting by J. Tipton. Premiered 10 Oct. 1973 at City Center, New York, with Beatriz Rodriguez and Larry Grenier. It is set to the last two movements of Haydn's 45th Symphony and though grounded in pure classical dance it reverses traditional male–female roles by presenting the ballerina as the assertive dancer and the man as the more vulnerable partner. This was Tharp's second work for the Joffrey Ballet.

Subjects: Dance.
