A domain (~200 aa) found in toll-like receptors and the IL-1 receptor. There are also four mammalian TIR-domain-containing adaptor proteins, MyD88, TIR domain-containing adaptor inducing interferon-β (TRIF), TRIF-related adaptor molecule (TRAM), and TIR-domain containing adaptor protein (TIRAP). TIR domains are also found in some plant cytoplasmic proteins implicated in host defence.
