tissue conditioner

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A temporary material applied to the fitting surface of the denture to allow inflammation of the tissues to resolve prior to the taking of definitive impressions; the material is resilient, allowing more even distribution of loading and thus promoting tissue recovery. It consists typically of a poly ethyl methacrylate (PEMA) mixed with a plasticizer and a solvent such as ethyl alcohol. Because the alcohol and plasticizer leach out quickly, a tissue conditioner can be regarded as a temporary soft lining.
