Quick Reference

A courtly game in imperial China in which the player threw an arrow into a vase. Such were the subtleties of the contest that a two-person match might be overseen by up to nine officials, though touhou represented ‘the tradition of gentle sports practiced in a spirit of harmony’ rather than the tradition of unarmed or armed martial arts collectively known as wushu (Allen Guttmann, Sports: The First Five Millennia, 2004).
