Total amount of training, usually expressed as total distance covered during a given period (e.g. 8 km during an interval training session or 40 km per week) or energy expended during a given period (e.g. kilocalories per week). Studies indicate that the optimal aerobic training volume for distance runners is about 80 km of running per week, and for swimmers is about 5000 m per day.
