Is a worker who is being prepared for an occupation or job role through education, training, and development. As a consequence, they are likely to be on a special, entry-level job grade and to receive a lower pay-rate than those who are fully skilled in the occupation or job for which they are being trained. Trainees are often young workers, such as a management trainee recruited directly from university. The UK's age regulations permit an employer to specify a maximum age at which a trainee can be recruited. There is also provision to pay a lower National Minimum Wage to trainees.
