Overview

translation of axes

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

(in 3-dimensional space)

Just like a translation of axes in the plane, a translation of axes in 3-dimensional space can be made, to a new origin with coordinates (h, k, l), with new axes parallel and similarly directed to the old. The old coordinates (x, y, z) and new coordinates (X, Y, Z) are related by x=X+h, y=Y+k, z=Z+l, or, to put it another way, X=xh, Y=yk, Z=zl.
