Overview

translation rate

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

The speed at which amino acids are polymerized into polypeptide chains on ribosomes. In bacteria at 37°C, the translation rate is approximately 15 amino acids per second. The translation rate for eukaryotic cells is much slower (e.g., two amino acids per second in red blood cells in vitro). Compare replication rate, transcription rate.
