A condition resulting from occlusion of the small arteries of the foot by atherosclerotic debris (see atheroma). This occurs during abdominal aortic surgery or catheter manipulation, for example during coronary angiography. Clinically it presents with pain and eventually patchy ulceration and gangrene of the whole or part of the foot.
