Quick Reference

In film, a special effect where a subject is filmed against a blue or green background (see green screen) in order to generate an opaque mask (or matte) which exactly matches their movements so that the subject can then be superimposed over a separately filmed background and not appear to be semi-transparent. In television and video this is called chroma keying or colour separation overlay.
