Hebrew scholar. The son of a Jew, he was converted to Catholicism in 1540; in 1541 Peter Martyr persuaded him to become a Protestant. He was King's Reader of Hebrew at Cambridge from 1549 to 1553. He translated the OT and NT into Latin from Hebrew and Syriac respectively.
