Sometimes written tressel-trees, two short pieces of timber fixed horizontally fore and aft on each side of the lower masthead of a square-rigged vessel and used to support the topmast, the lower crosstrees, and the top. Smaller trestle-trees are similarly fitted to the topmast-head to support the topmast crosstrees and the topgallant mast. For illus. see rigging: standing rigging.
