A family of forest trees and shrubs, closely related to Polygalaceae, in which the leaves are simple with small stipules. The flowers are zygomorphic, with 5 sepals, 3 or 5 petals, 3–12 stamens, on 1 side, and the ovary superior with 3 locules. The fruit is a capsule. There are 4 genera, with 35 species, occurring in Madagascar, western Malesia, and tropical America.
