Quick Reference

A low-molecular-weight, planar molecule that undergoes photochemical reactions with pyrimidines. Trimethylpsoralen molecules intercalate into double-stranded DNA. Upon exposure to ultraviolet light, the molecules attach covalently to pyrimidines forming both monoadducts and interstrand cross links. Trimethylpsoralen has no effects on proteins.
