Genes that are transcribed into tRNAs. Most tRNA genes are present in multiple copies. For example, the average repetition frequency for each tRNA gene species in yeast, Drosophila, humans, and Xenopus, has been estimated to be 5, 10, 15, and 200, respectively, per haploid genome. The mitochondrial genome of the malaria parasite lacks tRNA genes, and therefore these mitochondria must import all their tRNAs.
