Quick Reference

Originally the parrel which bound a yard to its mast in a square-rigged ship. However, the introduction of a metal gooseneck, which centred and secured the yard well free of the mast, made the original truss obsolete and itself took on the name of truss. It is pivoted to allow both vertical and horizontal rotation of the yard.
