An endotracheal tube is a catheter inserted through the mouth or nose (intubation) in order to maintain an open airway or to allow the passage of gases such as nitrous oxide or oxygen. An orthodontic tube allows a wire to slide through it and may be round or square in cross-section; it is usually welded onto a band cemented onto a molar tooth but may be bonded directly onto the tooth using resin composite (bondable tube).
