Cicero's confidential secretary and literary adviser, freed by him 53 bc. From 51 he suffered from malaria (see disease), which caused Cicero great concern. After Cicero's death he published some of his speeches and letters and perhaps a collection of his jokes, and wrote a biography of him. He devised a system of shorthand.
