Quick Reference

Courses of brickwork laid at 90° to the slope of a buttress, chimney, gable, or other feature, and tapering into the horizontal courses. It was often employed by C19 architects during the Muscular phase of the Gothic revival, using dense bricks of an engineering type, instead of a cope.
