The fetishes worn by Apache Indians in New Mexico. They are usually carved from lightning river wood, generally pine or cedar, or fir from the mountains. Miniature statues in form, tzi-daltai are ‘medicine’ and offer protection to the wearer, like the sacred feathers given to the Navaho heroes Nayenezgani and Tobadzistsini.
