Quick Reference

Is identified by charters as a joint ruler with Eanberht and Aldred in 737 and 759, but made grants alone in 767 and 770. Since Aldred granted alone in 778, it has been suggested that Uhtred may have excluded Aldred from power in the 760s, but that Aldred resumed the sub-kingship after Uhtred's death. A charter of 770 refers to the need to strengthen defences.
