A chronic inflammatory disease of the mucosa and submucosa of the colon manifested clinically by pain, diarrhoea, and rectal bleeding. Oral symptoms may include necrotic mucosal lesions indistinguishable from aphthous ulcers. The condition is closely related to Crohn's disease.
