A new form of long-duration, high-altitude balloon for meteorological and astronomical research. The balloons are designed to withstand daytime heating and maintain an overpressure at night. The volume of the balloon thus remains unchanging, resulting in a constant altitude. Flight duration in the upper levels of the stratosphere is expected to be several months, so the balloons may replace satellites for certain research programmes.
