Quick Reference

Joint schemes launched by the Teacher Training Agency in 1992 and taken over by its successor, the Training and Development Agency, to provide up to 3 000 undergraduate students with the opportunity to gain supervised teaching experience in schools at the same time as studying for their degree. Training on the job was provided variously by or through local authorities, schools, and the undergraduate's own university or college. The experience and training could then be used as credit towards the completion of a teacher training programme if the student subsequently decided to enter the teaching profession.
