The Church formed in 1972 by the union of the greater part of the Congregational Church in England and Wales with the Presbyterian Church of England. In 1981 most of the the Churches of Christ (see Disciples of Christ) in Britain joined it; as some of these congregations were in Scotland, the Church took the name ‘United Reformed Church in the United Kingdom’. It was joined in 2000 by the Congregational Union of Scotland.
