Quick Reference

A photographic and image-processing technique for reducing overall brightness variations in an image. A negative mask is made from the original, of low density and slightly out of focus. This is then sandwiched with the original, thus reducing the brightness range of the original while retaining fine detail. The result enables small brightness variations to be seen across an image with little reduction in their contrast.
