The uridine monophospho group derived from urydylic acid (compare uridine). Uridylylation is the post-translational addition of a uridylyl group to a protein, RNA, or sugar phosphate. Uridydyl transferase (EC 188.8.131.52) transfers UDP from glucose to galactose. Terminal uridylyl transferase 1 (TUT1, EC 184.108.40.206, 874 aa) specifically catalyses uridylylation of U6 snRNA and is essential for cell proliferation.
