A glycosylphosphatidylinositol-linked cell surface-associated form of of the Tamm–Horsfall glycoprotein (640 aa) which is found as a high molecular weight polymer in urine. It has potent immunosuppressive activity. Mutations cause juvenile hyperuricaemic nephropathy, an autosomal dominant renal disorder characterized by the juvenile onset of hyperuricaemia, polyuria, progressive renal failure, and gout.
