The most widely circulated of the medieval martyrologies and the basis of the ‘Roman Martyrology’. Its compiler, Usuard (d. c.875), was a monk of the Abbey of St-Germain-des-Prés at Paris. He seems to have based his work on the somewhat earlier Martyrology of Ado of Vienne (d. 875).
