Russ. composer. Taught comp. at coll. attached to Leningrad Cons. 1948–77. Her mus. was little played during Stalin régime, being regarded as ‘narrow‐minded’. Shostakovich defended her and sent her his works in MS for comment. He quotes from the finale of her cl. trio (1949) in his 5th str. qt. and in his Suite on Verses of Michelangelo.
