Also called Kubera, Vaiśravaṇa is associated in Hinduism (see Hinduism entries) with wealth and is a guardian of the North, one of the four cardinal directions. He is also king of the yakṣas (see Yakṣas), the spirits of nature. His evil brother Rāvaṇa (see Rāvaṇa, Rāmāyaṇa) stole his home in Lanka causing him to move to Mount Kailāśa to be near the god Śiva (see Śiva, Bishamon).
