Danish dancer and teacher. She studied at the Royal Danish Ballet School with Harald Lander, later in Paris and London, and in 1938 joined the Royal Danish Ballet. In 1942 she was promoted to soloist (principal) and created roles in many ballets including Juliet in Ashton's Romeo and Juliet (1955) and the title role in Cullberg's Moon Reindeer (1957). She retired from the stage in 1962 and was co-director (with her former husband Frank Schaufuss) of the Danish Ballet Academy and its associated performing group Danish Ballet Theatre until it was disbanded in 1974. She also choreographed two works, both in 1958: Spectrum (mus. Scriabin, Royal Danish Ballet) and A Note Page (mus. Mozart, Charlottenborg), as well as staging Bournonville's Conservatoire for London Festival Ballet (1973) and Bournonville's La Sylphide for the Stuttgart Ballet (1982). She additionally worked as a guest teacher, including the Royal Ballet School (1982–3). Mother of the dancer Peter Schaufuss.
