Quick Reference

A small family of closely related proteins (vascular noninflammatory molecules, vanins 1–3) that have similar functions. Vanin-1 (513 aa) is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored molecule expressed by perivascular thymic stromal cells and thought to regulate late adhesion steps of normal (non-inflammatory) homing to the thymus. It is a pantetheinase that hydrolyses pantetheine to pantothenic acid (vitamin B5).
