Quick Reference

A completely inaccurate technological prediction or concept. Named after the distinguished American researcher Vannevar Bush who predicted that computers would need to be the size of the Empire State Building in order to cope with the heat dissipation demands of their vacuum tubes. To be fair to Bush, he was very accurate with other technologies. For example, he predicted the use of hypermedia and an interpretation of some of his works would ascribe to him a prediction of the World Wide Web.

Subjects: Computing.
