The result of sexual relations and marriage between different classes (varṇas), particularly a high caste man with a lower caste woman. According to Dharmaśāstra, this brings bad results for all concerned, especially any offspring. As the Bhagavadgītā (1.41ff.) puts it, intermingling (varṇasaṃkara) leads to obliteration of the family, including the ancestors (pitṛs).
