US astronaut. His two space shuttle flights include the Discovery mission in April 1991 during which he was the primary operator of the Canadarm. He then worked as the lead astronaut with robotics for the International Space Station. Veach joined NASA's Johnson Space Center in 1982 as an engineer and research pilot. He was selected as an astronaut in 1984.
