vectorial synthesis

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

The process by which proteins destined for export from the cell are synthesized. As translation begins a signal sequence triggers association of the ribosome with rough endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and the nascent polypeptide moves through the ER membrane as it is synthesized. Proteins that will remain integral membrane proteins may have the process terminated before synthesis is complete so that they do not become free within the cisternal space of the ER.
