A constellation of the southern sky, representing the sails of the ship Argo Navis. Gamma Velorum is a wide double star of magnitudes 1.8 and 4.3, the brighter of which is the brightest known Wolf–Rayet star. The constellation contains the Gum Nebula and the Vela pulsar.
