veterinary epidemiology

Quick Reference

The use of epidemiological methods in veterinary practice and research has enhanced understanding and management of many human diseases of public health importance and aided in the discovery of ways to protect and maintain good health of livestock—cattle, sheep, pigs, poultry, and some wild animals, e.g., in parks. Some methods developed in veterinary epidemiology and wildlife biology, e.g., capture–mark–recapture method and the nearest neighbor method, have some useful applications in epidemiological studies of human populations.
