Quick Reference

According to the Pūrva Mīmāṃsaka exegetes, vidhi is the division of the Veda into which injunctions fall (for example, injunctions such as: ‘He should sacrifice’, or ‘He should perform’). As prescribed ritual action, vidhi is the sole means of knowing dharma; the rest of the Veda is either arthavāda (eulogy) or pratiṣedha (prohibition).
