Accounted the 15th Oecumenical Council by RCs, it was summoned by Clement V primarily to deal with the question of the Templars, who were being accused of heresy and immorality. The majority at the Council at first held that the evidence against the Templars was insufficient, but when Philip IV of France appeared with an army before Vienne, the Pope suppressed the Order.
